Please join us for a half day underglaze focused workshop, with artist Christine Sutton of Little Bird Painting. Christine’s whimsical animal inspired works utilize the Italian technique of sgrafitto and a limited underglaze palette to express the beauty of the natural world.
This half day workshop will provide an overview and exploration of surface design techniques with emphasis on form and process. Bring a sketchbook and your favorite carving tools (if you have them). The first half of the day will be focused on artist demonstrations, and the afternoon will be a hands on exploration of personal practice on 5×5 tiles. You may bring any preferred carving tools, but we’ll have plenty available if you don’t have your own, and Christine will bring a kit of carving tools she likes too.
This workshop is appropriate for makers of all levels. Participants should be comfortable working with clay, and interested in learning more about underglaze application and carving techniques. The workshop is limited to 12 participants, ensuring plenty of one-on-one time with each participant Please bring any questions, and stories to share!
