In this 6-week class, you will be introduced to the basic skills and techniques necessary to work with clay. Emphasis will be placed on both handbuilding methods and throwing on the wheel. The course is designed for those with little or no clay experience.
You will learn about the different stages that clay goes through on its way to becoming a final glazed piece, and all about tools and techniques for slab built forms and throwing a pot, and how to trim, dry, and glaze your final pieces.
At the end of the course, you will have the skills to make a piece from start to finish.
We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings for six consecutive weeks beginning April 15th and ending May 20th.
Class fee includes: instruction, one (25lb) bag of clay, use of all tools & equipment, glaze, and firings, as well as open studio access for practice (7 days/week, 9am-9:30pm). Anticipated projects include cylinders, cups, bowls, and slab built forms.
